Ramadan is on the doors, and the children who try once falafel already demanding the dish to be enjoyed at the Iftar time.  The Mediterranean falafel is the best dish to have in Iftar this Ramadan on a platter. Apart from the normal dishes like pakoras and the samosas, it is also the special platter to have.

Falafel is traditionally a food of Arab and is derivate from the Arabic word Falafel that means the pepper. A wholesome snack, crisp falafel originated back from millennium. It is first made in Egypt with the dried white fava beans.

Traditional food is a vegan food and is the great source of the protein. It is believed that it is Coptic Egyptians food. In the modern day falafel, the fava bean fritter and the ta’amia are used.  The dish is travelled from the Alexandria port to the Middle East.  The sailors of the market carried out because it is a convenient, dry and nutritious food.

The falafel another story is that it is originated in the subcontinent during the time of ancient.  And from that time in the origin offers the wide variety of the chickpea flour based fritters.  These dishes are sometimes shaped like a ball and sometimes look like the flat burger. The color of the dish is pail brown color and has the grainy and smooth texture which is stuff with pita or the Turkish bread inside.

Falafel is the second most common dish that is made up of chickpeas and the one being hummus.  This is famous in many of the Mediterranean and Arab countries with their own special version.

It is believed by many people that myth; the slaves at that time have the food similar to the falafel and have brought the dist to the Jerusalem of the pharaohs.  At the time of the migration to the holy land many years ago.

The Egyption Falafel is made up from the brown broad beans instead of the garbanzo beans just like the Arab countries. These two dishes have a really similar taste but as compare to the brown broad beans the garbanzo is healthier to eat.

Hummus and the falafel are the ultimate grub for daily use in the Muslim Jerusalem. It is famous food and likes by the children a lot. There are many kids who come out and purchase them for their daily breakfast. Falafel-1

Ingredients

Chickpeas ………………………………………………………………… 1 ½ cup boiled

Onion ………………………………………………………………………. 1/2 small

Chopped parsley …………………………………………………………. 3 tbsp

Garlic ………………………………………………………………………. 3 to 4 cloves

Flour ……………………………………………………………………….. 1 heaped tbsp

Salt …………………………………………………………………………..to taste

Cumin ……………………………………………………………………… 1/2 tsp

Coriander powder …………………………………………………………. 1/2 tsp

Black pepper powder …………………………………………………….. Pinch

Cayenne pepper ………………………………………………………….. Pinch

Green cardamom …………………………………………………………. 1

Falafel-2

How to cook?

  • Put all the above mention ingredients in a food processor, grind until it becomes the coarse mixture. After it cover and refrigerate the mixture for a couple of hours.
  • Heat the oil, and form the little balls approximately of the size of a golf ball.
  • Fry the balls for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Serve hot balls with a side of hummus or the tahini sauce. You can also serve it with yogurt raita too, it really tastes good.

Tahini Sauce Ingredients

Garlic cloves ………………………………………………………… 2

Fine sea salt, or to taste ……………………………………………. 1/2 tsp

Well-stirred tahini …………………………………………………….. 1/2 cup

Fresh lemon juice ………………………………………………….. 1/3 cup

Water ………………………………………………………………….1/4 cup

Olive oil ……………………………………………………………….1/4 cup

Finely chopped fresh cilantro ……………………………………… 1 tbsp

Finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley …………………………….. 1 tbsp

Ground cumin ………………………………………………………. 1/4 tsp

How to make?

  • Crush garlic, and the mash to a paste with the sea salt.
  • Whisk together garlic paste and all the remaining ingredients until it gets smooth.
